Evening Yoga Routine To Sleep Better And Relax
Feeling overstimulated and irritated after work? You’re not alone. Discover gentle relaxation techniques, breathwork, and evening yoga to release stress, stop procrastination, and calm your nervous system.
Sometimes when I come home from work, I can feel so irritated and overstimulated. Annoyingly, it can be from the smallest thing, this could be getting ignored in the grocery store, someone walking in front of my car while driving, Jessica sending passive aggressive emails again... believe me, I have been there.
Stuff like this can leave you not wanting to do anything you wanted to in the evening; the procrastination really creeps in. Your body can feel so heavy, and the sofa is calling your name.
Relaxation Techniques
If you are busy right now you can save this for later. Follow these steps for a quick relaxation relief, if you're on the go or not at home:
Be with yourself: You can find a quiet place or put headphones on to just be with your inner self for a moment. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? What music did you choose to put on and why?
Listening to meditation music: This helps focus the mind, bringing you back to the present moment, helping you feel more grounded and focused.
Breathwork - Box breathing: Set 5 minute timer on your phone, relax your body. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds. Repeat until the timer runs out.
Not taking the time for yourself to relax in the evening can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms or burnout. A gentle, quick evening yoga routine will help lift your mood and boost positivity. As you implement your new yoga routine in the evenings, you will feel calmer and have that procrastination monster come off your shoulders.
The more you practice these kinds of relaxation techniques, the more in tune you will become with yourself reducing stress and anxiety in the process.
Setting Up Your Yoga Area
Dim lighting: This can look like fairy lights, switching on lamps or putting on some candles. This also helps tell your body its bed time.
Bring a blanket to your yoga practise : I love bringing a blanket into practise if I'm needing that extra comfort regardless if the teachers have them in session or not.
Wearing comfy clothing: Wearing comfy clothing helps promote relaxation more.
Keep your mat in a high-traffic area : If you're like me and find going upstairs, unrolling my mat and putting on a video on the tv can be too much effort, keep your mat in a area that you walk past a lot before bed e.g. bedroom, or near the bathroom door.
Here a great practice with Yoga With Bird you will love, that helps you wind down after a busy day just gone.

Gentle yoga, breathwork, and creating a calming environment help reduce stress, ease overstimulation, and prevent burnout.
